Pembroke Pines, with a population of roughly 170,000, is one of the biggest cities in Broward County. The city is located roughly 23 miles from downtown Miami, and less than 20 miles from Fort Lauderdale.
After it was officially incorporated in 1960, Pembroke Pines began to grow rapidly, and during the 1990’s it was one of the fastest growing cities in America. In fact, the city ranked 3rd in a list of fastest growing cities in 1999.
Today, the suburban city is a largely residential, family-friendly community. The city is known for its large public charter school enrollment, and is home to local campuses of Broward Community College and Florida International University. Residents of the city regularly take advantage of local outdoor recreation opportunities such as CB Smith Park and Flamingo Lakes Country Club.
