About Spring Hill FL
Situated 35 miles north of Tampa, and just east of Hernando Beach, the incorporated area of Spring Hill has become the largest community in Hernando County, Florida. It is a beautiful and lively suburb of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area, having grown impressively since its establishment in 1968 by the Deltona Corporation. The Mackle brothers, Elliot, Robert, and Frank Jr., founded the Deltona Corporation to develop land and build communities throughout Florida. Spring Hill was the third Deltona Corporation community, and one of its most popular; the 28,500 platted lots were virtually sold out in only three years.
Through the decades, Spring Hill has grown into a sprawling semi-city. There are public and private schools, from elementary to high school, and it has recently become home to the Spring Hill campus of the Pasco-Hernando State College. The new Bayfront Health Hospital is the third accredited hospital to be opened in Spring Hill, and there are many nursing homes and rehabilitation centers for the large population of senior citizens.
For entertainment, there are plenty of restaurants and shops, including a 250,000-square-foot shopping center, and the natural tourist attraction of Weeki Wachi Springs, home to Florida’s only spring-fed water park, Buccaneer Bay. The famous live mermaid show can be viewed in an aquarium-like setting in the spring of the Week Wachi River. For transportation, one can always take THE bus (The Hernando Express), which services both Spring Hill and the neighboring Brooksville as Hernando County’s main bus system.
